I had the amazing opportunity to work on the Sniper Elite 5 DLC map 'Conqueror' as part of Flix Interactive's collaboration with Rebellion.
I was lucky enough to be assigned to the Nazi-held castle and its grounds; the site of the final objective in the level. With ongoing input from design I created the main blockout for the castle's keep and tower, using lots of video references and photographs to make it as close as possible to the real-life 'Château de Falaise' in Normandy. Various additions and revisions to the whitebox for gameplay including cover pass were carried out by Jacob Wotton and Lloyd Everson.
I worked alongside Arianna Staibano to take the castle from blockout to polish. I was responsible for the keep, undertaking its modelling, set dressing, vert painting, decal placement, initial lighting pass and collision mesh (the screenshots here show the interior rooms I worked on) whilst Arianna was responsible for the tower, connecting hallway and two of the upper-level rooms within the keep. We communicated closely throughout to ensure visual consistency across the castle's structure, focusing especially on the materials and use of decals which proved key in capturing the realism we were after!
I was given ownership of the castle's grounds, carrying out terrain modelling and sculpting, vert painting, set dressing, decal placement, collision mesh and some bug fixes. I had a lot of free reign with the placement of the inner stone wall ruins, due to them no longer existing in the modern-day grounds of today, so used lots of medieval references to create a layout I envisioned the castle originally having.
Additional dressing support was provided by Rhodri Thomas and Josh Clancy including the addition of the gatehouse section leading to the castle entrance, the connecting bridge and a mud pass over the area. A cover and sightline pass over the grounds was carried out by Jacob Wotton, Lloyd Everson and Alessandra Garber. Shoutout to John Tranter and Charlie Horn for the amazing art direction in the early stages. This was such an enjoyable environment to work on and I'm so pleased with the end result - a massive thanks to everyone who was involved! I couldn't have achieved this without the support. Credit to Rebellion for assets and textures.
